Aaliyah

Aaliyah

Aaliyah is a 7th grade student at Jamestown Middle School.  Due to social anxiety, Aaliyah was afraid of coming into the school building since the first day of school because she was new to Jamestown Middle and didn’t know anyone.  Aaliyah didn’t even start attending school until the 2nd week, and continued to have attendance issues after her start, which caused her to fall behind academically and she begin failing 4 out of 6 of her classes. In October, Aaliyah was recommended by her counselor for Jamestown Middle School’s afterschool program, Operation Xcel.  While being a part of Operation Xcel, Aaliyah has blossomed into a leader and has gained knowledge through academic enrichment and social emotional learning. Aaliyah is learning the essentials and strategies of becoming a successful student.  Most importantly, Aaliyah’s attendance has improved to where she has not had an unexcused absence since starting the program, and Aaliyah is now passing EVERY class.
