Our Mission: Equipping Youth for the 21st Century
At Operation Xcel, our mission is clear: to equip youth academically, socially, physically, and emotionally through future-focused after-school, summer, and mentorship programs. We promote academic development and character growth, guided by a strong work ethic and a dedication to community betterment.
Why We Do It: We recognize the need to prepare children differently for success in the 21st century. Our programs, like Operation Homework, are designed to be comprehensive, ensuring that students from Guilford County Schools (GCS) who may lack access to vital resources are empowered to excel. We commit to:
- Providing equal access to quality educational resources.
- Creating a strong foundation for the development of lifelong learners.
- Fostering civic engagement and encouraging career mindfulness in our youth.
See Innovation & Creativity in Action! Winter Showcases Are Here!
We are thrilled to invite our entire community to witness the incredible achievements of our students at the Operation Homework Winter Showcases!
This December, our afterschool participants will proudly display the innovative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) projects they have designed, developed, and mastered this semester.
What to Expect: A Dynamic Display of Skills and Future Potential
The showcases are a culmination of student learning and a direct look at our future-focused programming. You will see students demonstrate:
- Core STEAM Skills: Intricate robotics, coding challenges, drone flight plans, and design-focused LEGO® Engineering.
- The Arts: Powerful creative expressions through dancing, poetry recitations, and musical selections.
- Career Readiness & Holistic Growth: Students will demonstrate essential leadership, communication, and presentation skills as they share their work with guests. These skills reflect their development in Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and are vital to their success in future careers.
This is your chance to see our young engineers, thought leaders, artists, and future professionals in action!

The Power of Presence: Why Industry Professionals Must Attend
Your attendance is important not just for encouragement, but for direct student impact.
Our students need to see people who represent their future career opportunities—engineers, artists, business leaders, and professionals—at these events. When you attend, you:
- Validate Their Dreams: Seeing a successful professional take an interest in their robotics project or poetry recitation validates their hard work and reinforces the possibility of a successful career in their chosen field.
- Connect Learning to Life: Your presence connects the holistic academic enrichment and SEL they receive at Operation Homework directly to real-world expectations and success.
- Serve as Role Models: You serve as tangible role models, helping students connect their current development in leadership, communication, and STEAM to future professional pathways.
A Call for Unrestricted Support: Bridging the Funding Gap
Operation Xcel is incredibly grateful for the grants we receive, which provide critical funding for core services like our academic tutoring and STEM enrichment.
However, many essential programs and community engagement activities that define our organization—and help us serve over 400 families—are currently underfunded. This means the grant resources received do not cover the full cost of operation and excellence, and they rely on flexible, supplemental funding to run at their maximum impact.
These underfunded areas include:
- Administrative and Operational Costs: The backbone that ensures all programs run effectively and sustainably often requires resources beyond grant allocations.
- Community Engagement Initiatives: Programs that connect families and prepare students outside of core academic time are often stretched thin financially.
- The Annual Back-to-School Event: A massive, high-impact undertaking where we provide packed backpacks, resources, training, and food to equip our students and families for the school year. This vital service requires significant unrestricted funds to sustain.
Unrestricted donations allow us to bridge this financial gap and move these vital programs from simply operating to thriving. This flexible funding ensures we can fully invest in the success of our students, especially in areas where grant funding is insufficient.
How You Can Help Today
- Attend a Showcase! Your presence makes a lifelong difference to a student.
- Make an Unrestricted Donation Today: Provide the flexible funding needed to fully sustain our highest-impact community and administrative programs. https://operationxcel.org/end-of-year-giving-2025/eoy-giving-2025.html
We look forward to celebrating the innovation and future potential of our students with you this December!
