Jayden Johnson is a remarkable young man who consistently strives for academic excellence. When he first joined Operation Xcel’s “3 Steps Ahead” summer camp, he set a personal goal to improve his math skills. Recognizing his struggles with the subject, Jayden worked diligently with the support of Operation Xcel staff to be fully prepared for the school year. He finished the first quarter with an "A."As the second quarter became more challenging, Jayden's math grade dropped to an "F," but instead of feeling discouraged, he committed to intensive tutoring with our after-school math tutor. This meant sacrificing some of his gym time, though basketball was a passion of his. Jayden understood the importance of academics, and by the end of the second quarter, he raised his grade to a "B." Jayden’s perseverance didn’t stop there. Through consistent tutoring every Wednesday and Thursday, he pushed his math grade back up to an "A." Operation Xcel Jamestown is proud of Jayden’s dedication to his education. Keep up the great work, Jayden!
Henry joined Operation Xcel four years ago with significant academic challenges, particularly in reading, and struggled to connect with his peers and teachers. Over time, Henry has made remarkable strides in both his academic achievements and social development. Last year, for the first time, he did not need to attend summer school, and he is now one of the strongest readers in his class. He actively participates in STEM and enrichment activities, showing kindness to his peers and emerging as a trusted helper in the classroom. Henry’s commitment to his education is reflected in his perfect attendance, both during the school year and summer programs. As one of our Spanish-speaking students, Henry has greatly benefited from our reading and math tutoring, homework assistance, and holistic support. Operation Xcel provides him with snacks, a backpack through our monthly program, a bicycle from a High Point University donation, and a jacket from a local foundation—all while offering a safe space until his parents return from work. His family has expressed their gratitude for the positive impact the program has had on Henry and his siblings. We are incredibly proud of Henry's hard work and continued growth. Keep up the great work, Henry!
